At the 4th Annual General Meeting, it was unanimously agreed that the name of this organisation will be The Institute of Brewing & Distilling and that this change will take effect from 1st January 2005. A move that sensibly allows members to come to terms with the fact - and time for stocks of the old headed documents and stationary to be run down. The catalyst for this change was the paper that Douglas Reid, then Chairman of the Scottish Section, presented to Council following the 2002 Worldwide Distilled Spirits Convention in which inter alia he pointed out the successes, misapprehensions and opportunities that flowed from that event.
