There is clear evidence that sustainable beer production practices hold potential to be a key differentiator in today's ultra-competitive beer market. The critical question, however, is how brewing companies evaluate and implement sustainable practices and procedures that not only resonate with environmentally concerned consumers but also make sound business sense, both in the boardroom and in the brewery. Although beer production is relatively efficient, it remains extremely resource-intensive, with significant scope available to improve production processes even further. Kerry's recent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study carried out on the company's range of brewing solutions (based on a 1m H1 p.a brewery, 100% malt, wort at 18°P), and conducted in partnership with the sustaina-bility division of the global engineering firm Jacobs, confirmed that there are impressive sustainability benefits available to breweries that embrace the use of Kerry's brewing solutions.
