I was born in Brussels and started sailing at ii with the Sea Scouts. At 18, I got my first boat, a 26ft Dragon, passed my navigation exams and wanted to become a naval architect. I convinced my father to give me ayear off to travel, then flew to South Africa and joined a race going from France to Cape Town to Martinique, before returning to France. I never looked back. During my racing career, from 1976 to 1993,1 competed with all the sailing legends. Next, I bought an ex-KGB boat in Vietnam and modified it as a liveaboard. I worked with Franck Goddio and the National Museum of the Philippines to recover artifacts from wrecks.
