In the 1950s and 1960s, Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida was dubbed "the most beautiful woman in the world." Such was her persona that "La Lollo," as she became known, took to referring to herself in the third person. A symbol of Dolce Vita glamour, she was the paparazzi's favorite subject: she is pictured on the previous page enjoying a gelato in Rome in 1955. Throughout her life, Lollobrigida built a remarkable collection of jewels and in 2013,23 of her pieces were sold at auction at Sotheby's in Geneva, raising $5 million - part of which went to charity. Stealing the show was a pair of natural pearl and diamond pendants previously owned by the House of Habsburg that achieved nearly $2.4 million. The majority of pieces, however, were by her favorite jeweler, Bulgari (she wore the brand at her most high-profile appearances) - including a pair of emerald and diamond earclips and matching ring from 1964, which achieved a combined $488,000. Having celebrated her 91st birthday last summer, "La Lollo" is still every inch as glamorous today.
