For most owners, taking delivery of a 140ft yacht - and overseeing its interior design - is distraction enough. But for five-time yacht owner Barry Houghton and his partner Sophie Bonvin, Globas by Sanlorenzo was just one of two big new projects they handled in 2018. Houghton, who has owned property in Palma de Mallorca for more than 20 years, had finally snared a much-sought-after plot on the island, located in the exclusive Son Vida area up in the hills. "I know all the plots round here, and this land just has the absolute best position," he enthuses. "But then I lost it because it was too expensive -1 wouldn't pay the price. The next minute, someone else had snapped it up." The story, of course, doesn't end there. Six months later the deal had fallen through and Houghton, who develops property for a living, once more hove into view. The first thing he did once the land was secured was to show his contractors around his yacht. "I told them, This is the level of quality I expect,"" he says, "although not many people can achieve the same finish in residential work."
