Rare Man Ray Collections, Unseen Steichen Images, and the Passing of a Rock Photography Legend

Surrealist artist and photographer Man Ray once wrote in a personal journal that, "... there are two reasons for disliking a work - first because it is not understood, second because it is understood." This and other scholarly insights into the mind of one of the great Surrealist artists of the 20th century have come to light with the announcement by the Getty Research Institute that it has acquired two separate collections from private sources of material belonging to Ray (1890-1976).
