Over his 24 years at Immanuel Medical Center, Glenn Pollock has seen enormous changes in medical equipment. Early on, bedside monitors and other physiological equipment were either stand-alone units or directly wired to a central nursing station. Today, most medical devices are connected via high-speed networks, and as a result are only as reliable as those networks. Pollock has found an easy way to monitor the reliability of the hospital's physiological network, dramatically decreasing network down time and improving patient safety with the use of some basic switch management software.
