On 16 April 2012, the 108th anniversary of the Steamship Company Svendborg and 98 years after signing up as a BIMCO member, an era in Danish shipping ended. Despite his having attained the ripe old age of 98, the news of the death of Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller came as a surprise to most people. When Mr. Moller took over A.P. Moller -Maersk in 1965, the company operated 88 vessels and had offices in seven countries. Since then, the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group has developed into a worldwide conglomerate, operating more than 1,460 vessels and with offices in 130 countries. And as a symbol of having shaped it all, stands Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller.
