Pavement marking materials have been typically categorized into two types: paints (solvent-borne and water-borne) and durables. Paints are generally considered to be maintenance pavement markings that are usually applied every year over existing markings to maintain adequate lane delineation (visibility during the day and night). Durables are alternative pavement marking materials that are more expensive and often more difficult to apply, but are expected to provide longer service life.
