A Study on Real-time Communication Protocol over LAN for Industrial Systems

摘要

With an improvement of processing performance on computers, a requirement for improving real-time Performance over industrial LANs such as those for Plant Control Systems and Factory Automation Systems is increasing. In real-time communications, it is important that communication systems can provide QoS (Quality of Service) required from users by guaranteeing throughput, maximum transmission delay time and delay time variation. This paper proposes time critical communication protocol and real-time communication protocol to realize above mentioned function over Token Passing LANs such as FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface), utilizing TCCA (Time Critical Communication Architecture) and RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol), and evaluates their effectiveness by computer simulations under various conditions.
