DEFINITY Wireless Business System-Health Care Application: Nurse Call System Integration

In the health care industry, operational efficiency and quality of care are critical. Caregivers such as doctors, nurses, and technicians must be easily accessible and must respond quickly to patients' needs. Overhead paging systems and beepers provide some assistance with regard to caregiver access and response, but these methods require caregivers to stop what they are doing and search for an available phone. Nurse Call System Integration (NCSI), a feature of the DEFINITY Wireless Business System that integrates this system with the Rauland-Borg Responder Ⅳ System, an industry-leading nurse call system (NCS), provides a solution to these problems. This paper discusses the partnership between Lucent Technologies and Rauland-Borg Corporation and the resultant NCSI feature, which has improved health care efficiency and increased patient care and satisfaction.
