Now that mobile technology has finally captured the major portion of the residential market, equipment manufacturers are turning toward the business premises market to "cut the cord" of desktop communications. This paper describes the strides that Lucent Technologies' Business Communications Systems has made in designing business cordless products and in integrating wireless capabilities into its DEFINITY~® Enterprise Communication Server. It also relates how Lucent has taken a leadership role in formulating standards for the business premises market and for devising tools that help the sales force measure and satisfy customer needs and anticipate future requirements.
