As I have mentioned in recent editorials, the pace of technology development has been extraordinary. The iPad (and indeed the vibrant tablet sector) is only three years old; the iPod (carrying all our music in our pockets) is only twelve years old; and the mobile phone is still less than thirty five years old (barely middle aged). The first mobile phones (Motorola) were car phones because the batteries were so heavy that you needed a car to carry them about! Now, all these devices can be accommodated in one small pocket size device. This means that we never need to be away from our technology - it has become far more personal than the personal computer which sat on our desks at home or at work.
