A single cyber security breach can cost a large firm hundreds of thousands of dollars, but a concerted cyber-attack could potentially paralyse financial markets. The nature of the secondary markets as electronic networks makes them more susceptible to an attack than many other industries, and the use of vir-tualised records for all assets makes the likely effects of an attack even more devastating.
