摘要

The Fifteenth Conference of Parties (COP15) meeting in Copenhagen in December 2009 failed to advance the agenda of curbing emissions by this industry which stands at the forefront of global trade and economy.rnThe disappointing outcome of the meeting has underscored the need for concrete and constructive measures to be taken to reduce carbon emissions in the shipping industry.rnTo be sure, considerable efforts have been undertaken to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the industry. Cleaner engines and pollution reduction devices like the homogeniser have been developed, and developments in design and operations leading to lower emissions have been seen.
