'Warrego'

Most 24-metre vessels fit squarely in the "boat" category, but Gun Marine Services' new offshore support vessel (OSV) might be an exception. 'Warrego' has many of the qualities of a ship. Few craft of this size have a deck-load capacity of 30 tonnes while semi-planing, accommodation for 15 passengers and three crew, impressive redundancy, and zero discharge of fluids other than cooling water. As Gun Marine's project manager Jeff Napier says, this very untypical small vessel has capabilities more common in vessels over 34 metres long, but it has much smaller operating costs. Requiring all this capability in a vessel a Master Class 5 is qualified to command, Gun Marine gave the task to Southerly Design of Western Australia. Napier said he did not know of another design house in the world with so many highly successful aluminium vessels to its credit. Armada Ships built 'Warrego' at its Henderson yard in 45 weeks, incorporating refinements requested by Gun Marine.
