Success Strategies for Women in Science defines "science" as "the organized body of knowledge gained through a process of systematic study involving observation and experimentation." Included are the physical sciences, life sciences, applied sciences, and social sciences. Many of these areas of endeavor have traditionally been and continue to be male-dominated disciplines. Women drop out of science at all levels of achievement: secondary school, higher education, and early in science careers. Reasons for this are not well delineated. Do women really want to abandon science for other careers, or do they find the atmosphere in scientific environments to be too unwelcoming? Success Strategies for Women in Science provides advice and encouragement for women choosing science careers. Many successful female scientists from "industry, government, research institutes, and academe" have contributed to this book, some as authors of chapters, and others by sharing their stories of success.
