Focus on Chapter Communication

How have you gone about setting up your chapter website (what have been the greatest benefits and some possible stumbling blocks)? Initially, we asked a member, interested in website design, to work on our site. She was a faculty member at a local college and was able to get us server space there. Our first site was fairly simple in appearance, but quite serviceable. When our webmaster moved out of town, we moved our site to addr.com, a reasonably priced and easily accessible hosting service we heard about from another chapter. We enlisted another person who was willing to act as webmaster and transferred the site without making any de-sign changes. That process worked well enough until we decided to go to a more interesting (complex) design. A few months ago, we engaged the services of a website designer who worked for one of our members. He will host our site on his server; we expect roll out in November 2005. The costs are greater this way, but we have a more professional looking site and will no longer have to rely on our members for design, corrections, and updates. That reliance was our biggest stumbling block: time being in shorter supply than good intentions.
