JAXA Pilots Japan's Future in Aviation

Although modest compared with its expenditure on space systems, Japan's investment in civil aeronautics research has produced solid results in support of the country's aerospace industry. But aviation is changing, and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is looking at how to adapt.The focus on supporting established industry continues, for example through engine research, but JAXA is looking closely at emerging areas such as aircraft electrification, integrated simulation, advanced materials and artificial intelligence, and how those technologies could converge to enable new markets.
