The use of video surveillance in today's airports

It is predicted that by the year 2030, the vast majority of the global population will be residing in the major cities of the world and their spreading conurbations. Airports will, as a result, remain vital hubs for passenger travel and the transport of freight. The continuing urbanisation trend also means that today's airports will have to be expanded or new ones constructed to accommodate this demand. Passengers and cargo must be handled ever more efficiently and aircraft ground-time further reduced. Competition between airports will increase the need to optimise the comfort and convenience of passengers. Yet all of this will need to be achieved against a background of tighter economic constraints and ever-stricter environmental pressure, as well as increasingly tighter security regulations.
