Gela Sapkelashvili, a passenger on board a Belavia flight from Kutaisi, Georgia, to Minsk, threatened to blow up the aircraft if it was not diverted to a western European destination. The pilot still landed in Minsk where the passenger eventually surrendered to the KGB. Later, Alyaksandr Bukreyeu, the Captain of the CRJ-100, and flight attendant Alena Murzak received bravery medals for their actions on board.
