CCTV Data: is it fit for purpose?

Technological advancements and the proliferation of CCTV have given the opportunity for greater information to be available to the security services protecting our aviation industry. Yet despite these advancements, we are still learning how to harness the most effective and efficient way to collect and analyse the data from intelligent CCTV. What we see is that the environment in which these intelligent CCTV systems reside are as important as the system itself. Poor co-ordination, regulation, inspection and implementation not only negates these developments, but produces its own liability in the event of an incident happening and the proper management and control found wanting. Thirteen years after the Sir John Wheeler report and many other papers, including parliamentary papers we are still not smart enough to utilise intelligent CCTV to the full.
