What Could Go Wrong?

As the average personal-airplane goes, the pitot-static system isn't that complicated. As the schematic above demonstrates, it mainly consists of plumbing, three instruments, a pitot tube and a static port. That's, of course, for a basic airplane. As we move up the capability and cost ladder, things like dual flight instruments, pressurization bulkheads and fittings start to complicate things. With most glass panels, there's also a set of backup instruments, two of which-the altimeter and ASI-depend on the pitot/ static system.
