The landing gear on Sue's Comanche 250 probably had been pressure-washed, against her wishes. Although the mechanism itself was greased after the wash job, it appears the gear door rod ends were overlooked. Although the outcome in this instance was a happy one, we'd guess that's not always the case. For one thing, we have first-hand experience with gear problems on our own airplane after omitting a critical step in its overhaul. And just because it swings without trouble when on the jacks doesn't mean it will work as advertised when airborne—we can't simulate air loads in the average hangar.
