EVALUATING PILOT PERFORMANCE

As the description of a typical military aviation preflight process demonstrates, one of the differences between it and civilian operations is the detailed preparation and post-flight debriefing and documentation that occurs. Many flight schools, especially those operating under Part 141, employ similar techniques, but few if any do it the military way. At right is a "pilot training form" developed to document a civilian pilot's training session. It's a two-page form including space for evaluating and documenting pre- and post-flight briefings, weather, traffic and other factors, along with assessments of strengths, weaknesses and recommendations for improvement, if any.
