Finding Flight Following

When departing a towered airport in Class B or C airspace, VFR radar services are baked into the cake. When you call for clearance to depart, you'll get a discrete (i.e., not 1200) squawk code and the local ter-minal radar approach control (Tracon) will provide the services while you're in their airspace. When you're departing a non-towered facility or are en route, you have to request it, which requires finding and using the correct frequency.
