On August 6, the Civilian Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that operating restrictions on Avro Vulcan XH558 had been eased, allowing daytime instrument flight rules (IFR) operations and flight in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). The Vulcan had previously been subject to the same regulations as every other Permit to Fly type, restricting it to visual flight rules (VFR) operation.
