摘要

A memorial has been unveiled to a Spitfire pilot who died when his aircraft crashed on farmland near RAF Boulmer, Northumberland, on November 22,1943. Flying Officer Geoffrey Booth, 23, was on a night flight from No 57 Operational Training Unit's satellite aerodrome at Boulmer. The flight was scheduled to last an hour, but ended tragically soon after take off. Chris Davies, from Tyneside, has discovered traces of many World War Two aircraft in the region and was determined to find the site of Spitfire P8197's crash. Having found its likely location, he contacted the landowners who granted permission for an investigation.
