Quito Opens New Airport

The new $700m Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) opened on February 20 in the the Ecuadorean capital Quito. The President of Ecuador Rafael Correa performed the opening ceremony. UIO replaces the old airport of the same name, which was progressively surrounded by city development over the past 50 years and was unable to grow to meet demand.
