Search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Continues

As Aviation News closed for press, search aircraft and ships from various nations were continuing to look for Boeing 777-2H6/ER 9M-MR0 (c 28420) over a month after Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared. The aircraft, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew vanished on March 8 while on a scheduled flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China. On March 24 the search was narrowed to an area of the Southern Indian Ocean 1,550 miles (2,500km) southwest of Perth, Australia, after data supplied by the British satellite telecommunications company Inmarsat was analysed by the UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch. Then, four days later, the focus was switched to around 680 miles (1,090km) to the northeast after further analysis of radar data indicated the aircraft was flying faster than originally thought, which meant it probably would have run out of fuel earlier. Later the same day a Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3K spotted 'debris' in the new location. By the end of March an area measuring 123,000 square miles (319,000km~2) had been searched. Australian-led search efforts - supported by New Zealand, the United States, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea - were also hampered at times by deteriorating weather.
