Based on a photographic collection amassed by the author, with additional images from the Central State Archives of Cinematic and Photographic Documents of St Petersburg and the National Library of Russia, this extraordinary large-format softback contains in excess of 400 black and white photographs. The author places them in the context of Russia's pioneering aviation years through a workmanlike text and slightly clumsy captions, although it is abundantly clear what's going on in every photo and the captions are always good enough.
