Air Lituanica Ends Operations

Lithuanian carrier Air Lituanica has ceased operations. In a statement on May 22, the Vilnius-based company said: 'Airline management, acting responsibly and seeing [a] risk [of being unable to] fulfil commitments for the passengers, are stopping all regular flights." It immediately rebooked some of its customers with airBaltic, while others were offered a refund. Air Lituanica, which was launched in mid-2013 with the assistance of Estonian Air, has endured a turbulent history which included a high-profile legal dispute with its Tallinn-based partner. The fallout culminated in the "unilateral termination" of commercial co-operation contracts between the two with Estonian eventually paying LTL3.3m (€955, 800) to the Lithuanian airline late last year.
