Pakistan AH-1Z Deal

US State Department approval has been granted for a possible Foreign Military Sale of 15 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters and 1,000 AGM-114R Hellfire Ⅱ missiles to the Government of Pakistan. Announcing the potential deal on April 6, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said it had also now notified Congress of the proposed contract. Including associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support, the cost is estimated at $952m. The DSCA says that the proposed sale will benefit the United States by helping to improve the security of a country vital to US foreign policy and national security goals in South Asia, providing Pakistan with military capabilities in support of its counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
