After 16 years of service, the Pacific Aerospace Corporation (PAC) CT-4E Airtrainer has been withdrawn from Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) service. Based at RNZAF Base Ohakea, five of the type made a final farewell flypast over nearby Manawatu and Whanganui on the North Island on December 4. The CT-4E Airtrainer has also been used by the RNZAF aerobatics team, the Red Checkers. The aircraft will now be returned to the manufacturer at Hamilton. Future RNZAF Wings courses will be carried out on the Beechcraft T-6C Texan II with seven of 11 new aircraft having been received. The Red Checkers will also fly the T-6C aircraft and a competition has been launched to rename the team to suit its new aircraft.
