Chipmunks Gather to Celebrate 70th Anniversary

The maiden flight of de Havilland DHC-1 Chipmunk prototype CF-DIO-X was marked with a special gathering of the type at Old Warden, Bedfordshire on May 22 - 70 years to the day from the historic first sortie on May 22,1946. Organisers had hoped to gather 70 of the breed together but serviceability and poor weather around the UK reduced numbers to a still impressive 48 airframes.
