In the competitive world of European low-cost operations, Pegasus Airlines is enjoying impressive success. Last year, the Turkish carrier recorded double-digit growth in passenger numbers, maintaining the impressive trajectory it has been plotting since adopting the low-cost model in 2005. Pegasus was founded in 1990 as a joint venture between SilkarYatinm ve Insaat Organizasyonu, Net Holding and Aer Lingus Group, starting charter operations with two Boeing 737-400s. In 2005 it was acquired by ESAS Holding, and in November that year introduced scheduled flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport. At the time the carrier's network consisted of six domestic destinations - today it encompasses 103 airports in 40 countries including 33 in Turkey.
