In June RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, hosted simultaneous deployments of the Boeing B-52H Stratofortress, Rockwell B-1B Lancer and Northrop Grumman B-2A Spirit - the first time all three bombers had been in the European theatre together. Their presence was a statement to NATO allies and other nations according to the US Acting Ambassador, Lewis Lukens, who said at a media event at the base: "This deployment of strategic bombers to the United Kingdom is a clear demonstration of enduring commitment to our NATO allies and to deter further aggression in the region."
