Coulson Aviation has bought six Boeing 737-300s from Southwest Airlines and plans to convert them into T-137 Fireliner multi-purpose air tankers. They will be able to carry 4,000 US gal (15,141 lit) of water or flame retardant and transport up to 60 firefighters to incidents. The first 737 (N617SW) was painted in Spokane, Washington, and delivered to Coulson in Port Alberni, British Columbia, on May 26 - where it will undergo conversion with a view to test flying by November in readiness for next year's forest fire season.
