The 1940 German blitzkrieg sped across the Low Countries and France, putting Britain in the sights of Messerschmitt Bf 109s. German troops and aircraft massed, ready to invade the UK, but the first task fell to Hermann Goring's Luftwaffe: to help defeat the Royal Navy and destroy the RAF. The Bf 109 saw plenty of action during the aerial dogfights above Kent, Sussex and towards London, tangling with the RAF's Hurricanes and Spitfires.
