LEIPZIG, Germany — An Ukraine Air Alliance AntonovnAN-12BP, registration UR-CAG performing a freight flightnfrom Leipzig (Germany) to Mineralny Vody (Russia) with 7ncrew, was preparing for departure after being loaded withnalmost 49,000 live chicks (chickens) at Leipzig/ HallenAirport. Engines 1 and 4 were already running, when atn02:08L a fire broke out. The air crew managed to escapenunhurt, but the aircraft was destroyed by fire in spite of anmajor deployment of the airport fire brigade. All chicksnperished in the accident. No people were injured. Thenairport was closed for about one hour until the airport firenservices could extinguished the fire. Sixty firefighters andn15 fire vehicles fought the aircraft fire. Germany's BFU isninvestigating the accident. An investigation team hasnbeen assembled, and further details are not yet known.
