Wait times at passport control lines in the U.K. may be a bit longer as the Home Office's Border & Immigration Agency now has immigration officers scanning documents and cross checking passengers' details to make sure that only those eligible can enter the country.rnThe Border & Immigration Agency has improved the security of border checks through the use of new technology, said spokesman Toby Nation. "Border staff can now scan biometric data in travel documents against all the passengers presenting them. This means we can be more confident about the identity of people entering the U.K.," he said. "These security checks, which will further enhance our border security, may result in slightly increased waiting times. However, the vast majority of the traveling public think it is reasonable to wait a little longer to allow for thorough entry checks, particularly at this time of heightened security."
