The audio industry got together for a weekend of fun and fund raising on September 24-25 in Portsmouth. The annual event, which this year was renamed as AIR 2005 (Audio Industry Regatta), has been organised since 1989 by Ken Walker and Brenda White, building on an idea which surfaced in the crowded bar of an unsuccessful exhibition. Stranded there and with not much else to do other than talk to each other, a group of people discussed their mutual enthusiasm for on sailing. The charity event idea appeared to be a good way of bringing the industry together, going sailing and doing good. The first regatta, called PASTY (the Professional Audio Sailing Trophy) was held on the third weekend of April 1989 — at a time of year when the cold weather separates the men from the boys. A small fleet of Sigma 36s was hired from Britannia Sailing at Southampton, complete with all the tackle and training necessary to ensure a good weekend's sailing in the Solent.
