Too many large screen displays in public areas are instantly forgettable, often showing simple PowerPoint sequences or live TV, without impact or pizzazz. For corporate bodies, with a plasma screen or two in its head-office reception area or canteen it is a promotional, branding or motivational opportunity missed. For retailers and advertisers it is lost sales revenue. For dealers and installers it is a missed opportunity to offer value-added services and generate more revenue from the client, often at a higher margin than the screen installation itself. Sales of plasma and LCD flat panels are expected to soar in 2006 with B2B volumes of around 90,000 screens (as reported in AV Magazine September 2005). In what is already a cut-throat, low margin market, selling digital signage applications presents dealers with a massive opportunity to deliver extra services, generate extra revenue and retain clients for longer.
