'If we extrapolate d-cinema growth, that sector has the potential to dwarf others', says Christie Digital's vice president of Europe, Dale Miller. 'But our biggest market in Europe is still in business products. We have seen a real turn around in rental/staging, which has shown consistent growth for the last seven or eight months — there are a lot of staging companies out there who have worked their kit for as long as they could and then have chosen this year to reinvest.' As one of a small cadre of high end European and American displays manufacturers, Christie has made a conscious effort to stay away from both the home cinema market and the lower reaches of the DLP and LCD projector markets. But it still makes a vast range of products — there are over 80 in its current catalogue — and spreads its business across digital cinema, control rooms, visual environments, live event staging and corporate installations through the pro a-v channel. It also does well in very specialist sectors such as simulation and post production, where the film studio heritage that came with Christie's acquistion of the old Electrohome projector business comes in handy.
