I feel privileged to be editing AV in its 40th year. In today's publishing environment, it's quite something for a magazine born into a very different era to still be punching above its weight in a world where technology is transforming its market. Or is it? Reading the then editor, Stanley Bowler's first leader in his January 1972 edition: "The aim of AUDIO VISUAL will be to encourage and to enthuse its readers to use all varieties of equipment and materials, whatever their type or form, in the most appropriate manner and to the best ends.
