Devices that control AV installations have been available for many years, and like all other equipment they have evolved to incorporate an ever-increasing portfolio of features to cope with the constant rise in levels of demand from users. These days AV controllers are expected to directly control, or interact with, non-AV equipment; to manage the presentation room environment and services beyond, as well as interact with equipment so that distant system administrators can check, adjust and modify a building's AV facilities over a network, without having to leave their office and visit each individual location.
