Volvo has revealed a concept version of the S60, due in production in 2010. Besides giving an indication of the advances engineers are making on the car's skin panels, it also shows how Volvo will develop its safety technologies further.rnVolvo chief executive Stephen Odell said: "The S60 will be one of the strongest players in a segment where the competition is razor sharp."rnThe concept presents a feature that detects any pedestrians stepping into therncar's path and can activate full braking power -previously only 50 per cent was possible. Volvo plans to introduce the technology, which is likely to be laser-based, on the S60 next year.rnVolvo safety expert Thomas Broberg said: "Until now, we've focused on avoiding collisions with other cars. Now we're taking a step forward with a system that improves safety for unprotected road users. To our knowledge, none of our competitors has made progress in this area."
