Conti and Daimler boost pedestrian safety

Working together with Daimler, Continental has developed a cost-effective pneumatic sensor system which wilt help vehicle manufacturers to improve pedestrian impact protection offered by pop-up hoods. Research shows that just under half of the fatalities in accidents in Europe's capital cities were pedestrians. Pedestrian impact protection has a 20% weighting in EuroNCAP's rating system and OEMs must get at least 60% from that to get five stars. OEMs are under a lot of pressure to make improvements.
