Toyota develops low-compression diesels

Mazda isn't the only OEM devel­oping low-compression diesels. Toyota has also developed an en­gine with a 14:1 compression ratio. Doing this reduces combustion chamber temperatures, and therefore NOx emissions. Lower engine-out emissions mean that OEMs could meet Euro 6 stan- dards without the need for NOx aftertreatment.
