Two hours' drive north-east from Volvo's HQ in Gothenburg is the town of Skoevde. And it's here where Volvo is building its next-generation gasoline and diesel engine family after investing more than €225 million retooling the plant to do it. The downsized four-cylinders are gradually replacing all eight existing engine architectures, including the turbocharged straight-sizes used in full-size SUVs and luxury sedans.
